Cornavin hotel

Gare De Cornavin, Geneva CH-1201

Our Review

This is a nice, modern hotel offering a pleasant although fairly simple stay. The bedrooms are nothing grand but do have all that you need to ensure that you are accommodated comfortably. Many guests comment on the tremendous views from the breakfast room.

The Cornavin Hotel is housed in a 7-storey block, which has a somewhat neutral looking traditional façade, but is topped off by a more modern steel and glass construction, comprising the last three storeys. (Among its most famous guests was the comic strip character "Tintin" who filed reports from here during "The Calculus Affair.") The long lobby incorporates a fairly large lounge area with a bar and comfortable leather chairs arranged in semicircles. The majority of the 162 soundproof guestrooms are medium sized, but there are a handful which are quite large. Although they could, in some cases, benefit from refurbishment, they are all comfortable, featuring cherry wood furniture and soothing beige and cream colour schemes. The bathrooms are also old fashioned, but in good condition. The breakfast room on the seventh floor has a panoramic view of the Mont Blanc, Lake Geneva and the Jet d'Eau. But the property’s most unusual feature is the world’s largest pendulum, which hangs all the way down to the lobby from the ninth floor and is kept in motion by the earth’s rotation.
